The "Saddletramps" above consist of "Lefty" (Jim Weber on the left) vocals and guitar and "Dusty" (Mike Popelka on the right) also vocals and guitar. "Snickers" is in the middle (with all the hair) and usually doesn't accompany the "Tramps'" when they perform. They have been pickin' and singin' and grinin' together fur quite a spell.
Every so often, these two, old grizzled cowpokes, come in off that old, dusty lonesome prairie fur supplies. The trail can be a very hard place fur a couple old cowpokes. Both are gettin' a wee bit "long in the tooth." Each year, they get older and life gets tougher. Just a fact of life. Startin' to replace body parts. Simple things, like climbing up on a horse, gets a little harder. That's why you will see Dusty, climb up on the hitchin' post to mount Lil Buttercup. Most times, he only falls down five or six times before finally gettin' on. The years have not been kind to Dusty. (Kinda reminds me of the late 70's, when Dusty sported a "fro"). When the "Tramps" stop in a town, they visit the general store and pick up necessities fur the trail. You know, a bag of salt pork, couple o' corn dodgers, some cat-gut fur their guitars and a jug o' hootch (Canadian Club Whiskey). Dusty used to buy fresh cabbage, but is no longer permitted to do so, since Lefty and the horses could no longer stand the side effects. (and we know why it's called "natural gas") One night, the horses bolted and ran for the hills. They were scared to death. Seems Dusty fired one off in his sleep in the direction of the horses. Thought it was a desert storm, the way the prairie sand was movin' over the landscape! Took 'the Tramps" to nearly sunrise to find 'em! . They do, however, love to "wet their whistles" with a couple o' pulls from that old whiskey jug. Keeps their innards warm. They get that "warm, fuzzy feeling" all over. That's when Dusty thinks he's back on the hitchin' post, to get on Lil Buttercup and falls down. Before leavin' town, they usually regale regular folk with their songs and tales of their life on the prairie. That is, unless the law is on their trail!
Dusty (Mike Popelka) is a retired high school teacher and lives in Elkhart Lake WI. He has spent over 40 years in the Kiel School System. He used to have a "fro", writes music, enjoys singing, playin' guitar and serving his wife, Rho-Rho. Dusty is the elder of the group and usually has quite a bit of "trail" to him. Ya don't ever wanna be downwind of him. He always blames the horse! Poor Lil Buttercup. What he doesn't enjoy is falling off the hitchin' post while trying to get on Lil Buttercup. Dusty is recently "on the mend" as his knee gave out and he had to get a replacement (he hopes this one lasts longer than the original!) Dusty and Rho-Rho have two grown sons (Michael and David) and a granddaughter.(Allison).............
Lefty (Jim Weber) is a Vietnam veteran, retired trucking company executive and lives in Sheboygan Falls WI. He graduated from college at age 65! (who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks!) He has no spare time (cause he is retired) and has been playing guitar and singing since he was 15. He also serves his "Spousal Unit," Gail. Lefty is the youngin. The one with all the "getty-up and go" to him. (Contrary to what his "Spousal Unit" says) Lefty and Gail have two grown children
(Michelle and Chad) and two Grandsons (Joshua and Connor).
The "Saddletramps" have been entertainin' groups large and small fur sometime. They appeared in Las Vegas in July and in Nashville in August 2014. Believe it or not, they were invited back to Nashville in 2015 and 2016! They love comin' in off that lonesome prairie and sharing their tales with all sorts of folk. They once performed before Justin Bieber (was born) They'd love to come and entertain you! They promise not to bring the horses in, as they normally leave them "tied up behind the saloon!"
